Countdown to Fall: Summer Dresses

Well last week I was getting super excited for the start of fall.  This week our region experienced some record high temperatures and what is seeming like endless sun (I'm soaking up as much as possible)!

What I am wearing today is one of my favorite dresses that I bought this summer.  It is an off white mid-thigh length dress with a brown belt and crochet lace detailing at the bottom of the skirt.  I purchased this dress because it is a lovely summer dress with wide straps (making it more comfortable) and it will transition well with the weather. When the it gets colder out I will pair this dress with a brown sweater. I like this summer dress so much that I am determined to wear it all year round!

Outfit breakdown:

Dress: Bootlegger- Temperance, $25 (marked down from $50)
Shoes: Walmart- GEORGE, $8
Tank top: Merona, Hand-me-down
Belt: Comes with the dress.
Bracelet: Harry Potter Leather Bracelet from ebay. Here is an identical one on Amazon.ca.

I am enjoying these last few days of nice sunny, summery weather.  Enjoy the sun.

Until next time,
Kyra

My Five Favorites for Transitioning to Fall

These first few weeks of September are an amazing combination of fall and summer.  On Monday it was cold and rainy and today it is so warm I am wearing a tank top!  This transition time gives you a taste of the best of both seasons which is why I enjoy it so much.
These are five of my favorite items and products right now for transitioning into fall:

1.       Chamomile Tea- I never drank tea regularly until I tried chamomile tea. I drank less during the summer because it was too hot out to drink warm tea. I just drink the store brand because it is a cheaper option plus it still tastes great!
2.       Bird Mug- When I spotted this mug in Winner’s I thought it was adorable but knew I didn’t need it. I picked it up to take a closer look (because it is just so cute) and saw that the price was marked down to $2.99!!!  I was able to justify buying it quite easily when I saw that and it is a good thing because I use it almost every day (plus it is great for my chamomile tea)!

3.       Nail Polish- My Current Favorite is Sally Hansen “Pink Blink” Insta-dry polish.  The shape of the brush for this polish makes it really easy to apply.  It looks sweet but fairly subtle (for a bubblegum pink polish!). Here it is on the Sally Hansen website.

4.       Room Essentials Blanket- I needed a new blanket for winter and I was waiting to buy a nice fleece one from Seas but Target had other plans for me.  This micro-plush blanket is super soft and cozy, plus it just happened to be on sale the day I went shopping! This is ideal for winter because it is not itchy like a wool blanket.  I layer it with another similar blanket and my comforter on chilly nights and so far it has been keeping me nice and warm. Here is a similar one in grey.

5.       Bath Robe- I was given a Costco bathrobe for my birthday in July and used it throughout the summer because it was nice and light.  Because it is so light it is also is good for this time in September when it is not so cold that you need to pull out the fleece onesie. A light bathrobe will suffice for now.

I enjoy these products so much that I just had to share.  Leave a comment sharing the products you are loving right now or your favorite things about September.

Until next time,
Kyra

Countdown to Fall: Back to School Style on a Budget

Summer is coming to a close today and it is bittersweet.  I love summer and everything that comes with it: beaches, swimming, visiting the cabin and all the garden-fresh produce.  Now that the weather is changing and school is starting I get excited for fall to begin.  Some of my favorite things about fall? Sweaters, leggings, heavy blankets and everything cozy.

I have decided to start up this blog with a series titled "Back to School Style on a Budget."  I buy most of my clothes second hand or on clearance and I always score.  It is completely possible to have a wardrobe that you love without spending a fortune.

Today's featured outfit is one of my favorite new outfits for this fall. I went out of town on a day trip and visited Value Village on a day that coincidentally had all clothes marked 50% off! The dress today is from Value Village, the "VV Boutique".

Outfit Breakdown:

Dress: QED London - $7.50 with VV discount.  The fabric is thick and warm and perfect for fall!

Tights: From a local boutique.  These are lined and soft on the inside. If you wear tights often I have found that buying nice tights is a great investment for several years.  If I remember correctly the price was originally $30 but it was on sale for $15.

Sweater: I have no idea!  It was a hand-me down and the tags were cut off when I got it.  The fabric is a light knit and it is perfect for when you want a sweater that compliments the outfit instead of covering it. Cost to me- Free

Shoes: I am wearing basic black ballet flats from Walmart.  These are best for when you have classes all day and will not be on your feet much because they are cute but not great for walking in.  I use an arch support insert for added comfort. Originally $15, on clearance for $5.

This outfit is great for fall because it keeps you warm and it is comfortable ( I blame that on the lined tights!). With fall approaching I am keeping my eyes open at second hand stores for sweaters and sweater dresses to wear when the weather starts to get really chilly.

Until next time,
Kyra
